Anglo-Indian inlaid furniture made for the UK market.

The British East India Co. explored the world and created industries in many ports by the 1700s.
There was profitable trade in Chinese and Indian furniture made for the British market.
British officials sent samples of popular chair styles to Indian artisans to replicate and sent British tradespeople to train Indian workers. The resulting furniture blended cultures: British shapes and Indian woods like teak, ebony, or rosewood. A lace-like frame filled with birds and flowers could be carved onto an expensive piece, featuring an inlay of ivory or silver.
There are many records of shipments of Anglo-Indian furniture but little documented history. British cabinetmakers even complained that the quantity of imported furniture was harming their business.
