About

Carlo Scarpa Tessuto Velato executed by Venini & C., Murano.
This tessuto vase displays alternating light and dark-colored lines on shades of green. These straight lines follow the curves of the vase, thinning as the neck tapers in. Designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini in 1940, these vases are hand-crafted using the Tessuto technique. This is where cold glass canes are lined up in a pattern, then heated up and worked in the furnace to shape the vase.
Opaque surface matt finishhorizontally wheel-carved in the ‘velato’ technique.
Marked with three-line acid stamp venini murano ITALIA.

Velato Technique
The wheel carving is applied more lightly and softly to give the glass a satin finish, which is called velato.
