Art Deco cocktail shaker, silver plated, by Ercuis, France, 1940s. Marked C12437, Ercuis, maker’s mark – the well known centaur, and ’20’ for silver plating quality (20 gr silver used to plate this item)  Very good used condition. Minor signs of age and use.

Maison Ercuis was founded in 1867 by Adrien Céleste Pillon, a priest in the small village of Ercuis in the French department of Oise, 50 kilometres to the north of Paris, who founded a company specializing in “artistic silverware, relief enamel, copper and silver plating, gilding and wire drawing” which grew rapidly. A housing estate was built for workers and a supply of labor poured in.
