L. Hjorth was a Danish owner of a terracotta factory and a ceramist. Born Lauritz Adolph Hjorth, 27 December 1834 in Rønne, died 9 December 1912 , same place.
Hjorth was not only a skilled artist, he also understood that if his factory was to survive the competition from other potters’ companies, he had to deal with marketing. In addition, Hjort participated in countless national and international industrial exhibitions of the time and took home several prizes. He advertised them in his catalogues: Nakskov 1868, Altona 1869, London 1870. It could well happen that some of his works were sold abroad to enthusiastic Danes, who later found a stamp from Hjort’s factory in Rønne at the bottom.
